Reading Focus Notes

Posted In: 90 Days by admin

Sometimes things happen that push you to to stop and refocus everything that you are currently doing. Well this happened this past week and here is one of the major things i am going to do for the next 3 months. I am only going to read the word of God. Before you jump to conclusions i have always read the bible. But throughout the next 3 months no other book will i read other then the bible. I am starting in Joshua and have planned my time to finish the whole bible is the 3 months.

My goal is to really just spend time with god and ask him to move in this time in a major way. I will be posting my thoughts of my reading through the upcoming weeks. Here are some of the notes from the first 2 days…

Day One: Joshua 1-12

* Joshua 1:2 Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan river into the land I am about to give to them–to the Israelites
-This was really cool as I saw that even though Moses could not go into the promise land God did not allow anyone else to go in until Moses was dead.

They stole things from the ruins of Jericho. This lead to the Defeat of AI and the death of those involved. But what struck me was they jumped the gun as in the next City God let then take what ever they wanted. We need to work in Gods time.

Joshua 9:14 “The Men of Israel sampled their provisions but did not inquire of the Lord.” We need to be closer to God and not our own understanding

In day 2 I read chapters from 13-21 and saw a lot about the land being split. One thing i saw was if the people did not finish taking the land they had to live with those they were not meant to live with. I think this is really important in regards to our daily life.

Looking forward to this journey and all that God has for me over the next few weeks.

Making Lemonade

Posted In: Student Ministries by admin

This past weekend was a first in my short history in ministry. My Senior Pastor was given a 3 month Sabbatical. Although it comes when I am really seeing God move inside the student ministry Ii lead. So the question comes what do I do over the next 3 months. I know it is business as normal but i really want to focus on God throughout this time. So here are some of the things that I am working on over the next 3 months;

  1. Read only the Bible: Starting in Joshua and my goal is to reach Revelation.
  2. Start working out: That means walking, lifting, and also maybe P90X.
  3. Delegate: I am going to pick up some extra jobs so I need to continue to delegate in a bigger way.
  4. Focus…Focus…Focus: I need to make sure thoughout the next 3 months that I make ministry a focal point of what I do.
  5. Learn from Others: I need to work through this time as one that needs to learn from others mistakes to improve in my life.

So here is to the next few months as i learn in ministry. I will be posting as I go through this time.

Well the other day I went out with the family and purchased some pumpkins. We ended up purchasing 3 pumpkins for my two oldest and my wife. I really wanted to support them, but not cut them as i am really bad.
So tonight we did the pumpkin craving, and my biggest fear came true. I did the two bottom pumpkins, and feel bad for my girls. It was nice to hang out and have some family time, even if i messed up the pumpkins. I also realized that my girls don’t care how good i am they just like to hang-out with me. So I am working on just making the time because my girls are more important then anything else. So enjoy the pumpkins because i enjoyed my family time.

Video Announcement Thoughts

Posted In: Growth by admin

Man every week we do video announcements and today it was on my mind. I am always looking for ideas and think the video below was something we should try in the coming weeks. Very funny. The team at North Point Church in Springfield MO is very creative.

Over the past few days I have been wondering if i should do “To Save a Life” throughout the Youth Dept. Wondering if it would be worth while? So I will ask you do you feel doing this is worth it? and would you do it in your youth ministry?

Also I was unable to be part of a screening and wondering how the movie is overall. If you have seen it how was it made.

Every once in awhile you see something that just is confusing. Church signs often have these types of items. Below is a church sign picture I received today. Very Funny

I am really excited about the new movie “Where the Wild Things Are”. It was a great book when I was younger and now I get to relive it with my girls. I was also looking at Other Possibilities when remaking Classic books into movies. Thought this one was a sure hit!

Sometimes through my reading I come across one that really challenges me. Well today I read a quote that was posted on Brad Coopers Blog.

“We talk of the Second Coming; half the world has never heard of the first.” -Oswald J. Smith

Thanks Brad for the Quote.
