I was informed the other day that I was accepted to take part in reviewing Mark Battersons new book coming out 1.1.10. (I encourage you to pre-order this book you can do it at AMAZON or BARNES & NOBLE) I am really excited to do this as I have loved his previous 2 books (In a Pit with a Lion on a Snow Day & Wild Goose Chase) and think Mark is an upcoming voice to this generation. So be watching the blog for my review. I should get the book in the next week or so.

So I would like to say thank you Mark and Team for letting me take part!

Man every week we do video announcements and today it was on my mind. I am always looking for ideas and think the video below was something we should try in the coming weeks. Very funny. The team at North Point Church in Springfield MO is very creative.

Enjoy the Journey

Posted In: Growth, Helps by admin

journey-image-1

About a year ago I started ending all my letters and emails with the line, “Journeying Together”.  I do believe that all of us are on a journey.  We are headed to a point, but during the travel what do we focus on the journey or the destination. I was reading a great post from Scott Hodge the pastor of a church called “The Orchard”. (You can read it here) He talks about the power is in the journey and that we need to value the Journey.

Looking through my life I have really decided to love the journey, the good and the bad, as it is what God is using to shape and mold me.  I struggle though with focusing so much on reaching the goal I miss the joy I could have in my journey.  So today I am focusing on creating signs that will help me live and be excited in the journey and let the destination be shaped by God.

What do you think is more important, the journey or the destination?  What are some things you do or think will help you live inside the journey? Let me know what you think by leaving a comment.

Great Idea…

Posted In: Events, Growth, Helps by admin

I am excited about the Nines Conference. Here is a breakdown of what it about:

THE NINES is a free one-day event that will take place totally on-line.  It is specifically designed for any church leaders who is interested in learning valuable things about church leadership.

Leadership Network asked some of the church’s greatest communicators:  "If you had nine minutes to talk one-on-one with thousands of church leaders, what is the one thing that you would tell them?

The format is simple:  Nine minute video leadership lessons that can help multiply your church’s impact.  You will be stretched as a leader, and motivated as a church.

We are encouraging every church staff member in America to attend THE NINES.  Watch it alone, or with your entire staff.  It’s free.

I would encourage everyone to take part in this conference.  I am looking forward to the impact nine minutes will have on me.  You can check it out HERE.  I would love to know what you think? Leave a Comment

Organization Prep

Posted In: Growth by admin

Man for the past couple of weeks I have been trying hard to become more organized.  Through it I have found a couple of insights;

  1. I will never be organizational perfect
    • No matter how many books i read, folders i create, or anything else I will still have organizational flaws.  The goal has to become better, not perfect.  Because if you set the bar at perfection, you will always be discouraged and quit.
  2. There is no magic bullet
    • I wish I could tell you that if you just apply the steps everything will change and work.  Most of the time you work through and create items that fit you. Some of the books that have helped me Getting Things Done, Making it all work, Eat that Frog. It takes a creative outlook and trail and error to grow in organization.
  3. Prep before Creation
    • This is the one item that has really been helping me GTD (Get Things Done). I have been stopping and planning what I need to do and how to achieve it.  By doing this when I begin to create items it goes faster because I know where i am going.  I know it sounds simple, but for most things I created as i went and it slowed down the process.

These are just a few items that have been helping me be better organized.   I would love to hear what secrets you have for getting things done.  Leave your secrets in the comments area.
